October Schedule
Hi folks,
We have a great month of activities lined up in Gateway. From relaxation & meditation classes with Carol on Mondays to arts & crafts Thursdays and creative writing on Fridays. Angela from Threshold Training Network will be in on 20th to chat with members about their new Employability Skills Course, the Wellbeing Cafe and WRAP. Monday 27th October is a bank holiday so the drop in will be closed, instead Oliver D will be volunteering his time to host a meet up with members in the city so make sure to check in with him, here on the blog or project workers beforehand to know the details.
Finally, and most importantly, Gateway is celebrating its 10th Birthday this Thursday 9th October as part of World Mental Health Week events. We have lots of fun and positive mental health related activities as well as the usual partying lined up for the day. Look out for the event guide for the day in upcoming blog posts.
Best wishes to everyone,
Gateway Project

And something for the weekend... Tesco Community Fund cheque received and some musical interludes from our kind local musicians due to play next Thursday as part of the birthday bash - enjoy
Thanks to Tesco Community Fund for including us in good causes charities. We received €129.43 from the last round of voting from a total of €500 which was shared with other important local groups: St Mary's Day Care for the Elderly and the Women's Refuge all in Rathmines.
It was a good to have Gateway information available for every to see in Tesco so other people living locally could find us, as some new arrivals to the project remarked recently! Thanks Tesco and thanks to the fabulous Michael D for dropping everything last minute to collect the cheque for us :) We also chanced our arm at some donations for the birthday party next Thursday so hopefully Mick and Suzanne will help us out a bit further. If anyone is interested in giving them a gentle reminder, please do drop in!
The money from the fund will go to support extra relaxation and meditation classes for members - yippee and thanks Carol for being such a great facilitator.
Have a lovely weekend everyone and remember to check out Joerg's Dublin Free Event guide to find out what's happening around the city for free.
Now some music for the weekend from our wonderful supporting musicians set to play at our birthday next Thursday:
The amazing Davina Brady - a modern day Janis Joplin in the making by the sounds of her...
Davina will be singing and playing to kick off the party from 12.30 at Parker Hill
Check her facebook page and like it / leave her a message of thanks :)
and the rockin Chris Maxey doing some band practice - check out his facebook page too and www.chrismaxeymusic.com

with an interest in standing up for these beautiful creatures to join her from
3 till 4pm. You can text her on 087-3425769 (no calls please).Interested in animal welfare but can't attend Saturday? Let us or Linda know as she would love to set up a small, informal discussion group.

Dublin Bus Community Spirit Awards grant Gateway €2000 to make a film
Gateway Project awarded €2,000 grant to build skills and leadership through a film-making project from Dublin Bus!
Gateway applied to the Dublin Bus Community Spirit Initiative earlier this year seeking a grant for members to engage in a film-making project for Gateway.
We applied for funding so that members could engage in leadership and skills development programme through film making. The goal is for members to learn the skills to make a film all about Gateway and the wonderful work we do to support inclusion and positive mental health. The funding for this programme will give members a chance to build their skills, confidence and leadership in the project and will produce an important information film that we can use in the future.
Last night we attended the award ceremony to find out the great news. It was a rather fancy evening in the Mansion House and terrific to hear about all the great community groups and organisations that also received funding.
Maura, Oliver D, Ann Marie and Fionn represented Gateway. We had a fab night and met some interesting people like Niall Quinn.
We say a big thank you to Dublin Bus for caring about mental health and supporting our fabulous project.
Onwards and upwards folks!
