Minister of State for Mental Health and Older People Helen McEntee is visiting Gateway!

Hello Gateway Members!

I hope this post finds you well. I have exciting news – the brand new Minister of State for Mental Health and Older People, Helen McEntee, will be coming to visit us in Gateway next Thursday the 28th of July!

This visit isn’t happening by accident – members decided they wanted to invite her at the members’ meeting in June. Wasting no time, a group of members drafted a letter and sent it off to the minister.

Following this Fionn and myself (Ali) made a couple of follow-on calls to the minister’s office at the request of members. Oliver D and I also introduced ourselves to the minister at the recent Mental Health Reform AGM (Annual General Meeting), and she said she would be delighted to accept our invitation.

So now we have a date set, and we are really delighted as it feels that the new minister is genuinely interested in Gateway and in learning about us.

If you have the time to come in a bit early on the 28th and help set the place up for the visit that would be great – let us know if you can. Or if you want to be involved in the planning for the day – nothing too hectic, we’ll keep it informal – get in touch. (Contact details below my signature.) Otherwise it’d be great to see you all here for the visit itself – 2pm on Thursday the 28th of July. (Try to come a bit before that if you can.)

See you soon!
-Ali

Solstice Wellbeing Day 20th June.

The summer solstice takes place on Monday 20th June and this year Mental Health Ireland will be celebrating our Solstice Wellbeing Day in the grounds of Dublin City University (DCU). The solstice is a time of reflection and renewal and at Mental Health Ireland we want to celebrate this time by making our own Solstice Intentions for the year ahead.

The national event will take place at The Labyrinth in DCU at 7pm. Sr Stan from The Sanctuary will read a passage to open the ceremony and we will have some live music on site too. The Labyrinth Meditation will take place at 7.20pm guided by Louise McDermott from DCU. We will be giving Solstice Intention cards out at the event which people can fill in their own time.

All are welcome to attend and please check in with your local MHA : click HERE to find out more, as many of our members are organising their own ceremonies in communities throughout Ireland.

Some more information is available from Mental Health Ireland's Website too.
